e-Portfolio
Your Professional Language e-Portfolio is an electronic document that is composed of three parts.
- The Language Passport
- The Language Biography
- The Dossier
The Language Passport
The language passport allows you to summarize your language learning experiences and to describe them in a meaningful way using the terminology of either American or European rating scales.
The Language Biography
The language biography focuses on the five C’s of language learning. It provides you with an opportunity to assess your language learning progress with communication in five skill areas. It also encourages you to set personal goals in language learning and cultural competence. You can use the language biography to plan strategies to meet your individual goals.
The Dossier
Your dossier should contain at least three writing samples and two different types of projects.
Writing Samples
1. Your Resume demonstrates your skills and abilities.
It can be published in a simple PDF format or can be presented in an innovative way. You may decide how to present your writing sample yourself. See a sample professional presentation on the Prezi website.
You can use different presentation tools to create your projects.
2. Research Paper
You can use a 2 page long research paper and add a glossary that is related to your area of study. It can be a unique terminology list that you have created in your language class.
3. Translations
If your goal is to become a translator, it is a good idea to include a sample translation document in your dossier.
4. Blog postings
In your blog postings, you can reflect on your language learning experiences, travel memories, or extracurricular activities. They can be published on your site as long as they are in the target language.
5. Personal Statement
If you are preparing to continue your study in a professional field, you may want to include a Personal Statement in your portfolio. Usually, a Personal Statement is used to apply to a graduate school or standard medical and law school application forms. However, a Personal Statement in another language can be used for applying for translator or teaching positions.
